A história da Missoni começou em 1948, em Londres, quando Rosita, de uma família produtora de tecidos, conheceu Ottavio, fabricante de uniformes desportivos e atleta na equipa de atletismo italiana presente nos Jogos Olímpicos que ali decorriam. Em 1953 iniciaram um pequeno negócio de malharia, que vendiam a estilistas e em 1958 apresentaram a primeira colecção de autor. Mas o bang! que levou o negócio aos píncaros foi a junção de 3 premissas que, em meados de 60 isoladas nada valiam, mas que juntas pegaram fogo aos modantis da altura: a fibra artificial rayon/viscose, o uso da op-art (os zig-zags que são para a Missoni o que o tartan castanho é para a Burberry) e a pré-disposição que os endinheirados do final da década bêbeda tinham para o faz-de-conta-que-sou-hippie. Os vestidos, macacos e saias que os mais conservadores classificariam como maltrapilhos nunca deixaram de estar na moda, pela simples razão que há-de sempre haver ricos que gostam de brincar aos pobres. Em 1981 a Missoni começou a fabricar texteis para decoração e em meados de 90 aconteceu com a linha casa o que aconteceu com a linha moda: porquê vender aos outros a matéria-prima, se podemos nós fazer tudo? Nasce assim a Missoni Home. Ottavio Missoni morreu na quinta-feira. Tivesse eu na cabeça toda o jeito para o negócio que Ottavio tinha em 3 neurónios, haveria de estar outro a escrever este blog, e eu na minha ilha do Mar Egeu, a bebericar Dom e a mordiscar trufas com beluga.

ZIG-ZAG WORK FROM A MAN THAT WAS FORWARD

The history of Missoni began in 1948 in London when Rosita, from a fabric producers family, and Ottavio, a manufacturer of sports clothes and an athlete for the Italian track team, met there during the Olympics. In 1953 started a small knitting business, selling to designers and in 1958 presented their first own collection. But the bang! that led the business to the heights was the junction of three assumptions that in the mid 60's were, alone,  worthless, but together set fire to fashionistas: the artificial fiber rayon/viscose, the use of op-art as a pattern (the zig-zags which are for  Missoni what is the brown tartan for Burberry) and the pre-disposition that the wealthy of the late 60's had to lets-make-believe-I'm-an-hippie. The dresses, skirts and jumpsuits that classy people would classify as rags never ceased to be fashionable, simply because there are always rich people who like to play poor. In 1981 Missoni began manufacturing textiles for decoration and in the mid 90's happened to home line what happened to the fashion line: why sell to other raw materials, if we can do it all? Thus is born the Missoni Home. Ottavio Missoni died on Thursday. If I had on all brain the way to do business that had Ottavio had on 3 neurons, another one would be writing this blog, while I layed in my Aegean island, sipping Dom and nibbling truffles with beluga.
